Taking place on 31 May in Rotorua, Highlander delivers an unforgettable day on the bike through some of the most iconic terrain in New Zealand mountain biking.

A Point-to-Point Rotorua Adventure

The Highlander MTB Challenge is a true point-to-point ride, starting at the geothermal wonder of Te Puia, home to the awe-inspiring Pohutu Geyser.

From the start line, riders roll out towards the world-renowned Whakarewarewa Forest, where kilometres of flowing singletrack await. Famous for its hero dirt and perfectly sculpted trails, this forest has become one of the most celebrated riding destinations on the planet. The journey finishes beside the stunning Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake), where riders can celebrate their ride surrounded by lake views, fellow riders and a great event atmosphere.

Whether you are building towards Whaka100 or simply looking for an incredible day on the bike, Highlander offers a distance for everyone.

Riders can choose between:

• 60km – the full Highlander experience and an ideal training distance for Whaka100 riders
• 30km – the perfect mid-distance challenge
• 10km – a fun introduction to Rotorua trail riding

The 60km marathon distance is particularly popular with riders preparing for Whaka100, offering a chance to experience a longer day on Rotorua’s legendary trails.
